Andrew Ryan Robb

I am interested in exploring mass media particularly print media and advertising, which relentlessly and ruthlessly prey upon basic human instincts to capture an audience and sell products. Through the processes of collage my work has evolved and grown into a political, ideological discussion that pushes the boundaries of male feminism in stark reaction to a hyper-sexualized media culture.

A powerful image can have a lasting impact on us, but what about images we take for granted?  How do these “Garbage” images impact us and influence our understanding of the world?  Most of the images we see and consume on a daily basis are considered safe, yet are carefully crafted manipulated messages. They are designed by billion dollar ad agencies and deeply funded think tanks to carefully undermine our subconscious.

Exploring this thin line between modern advertising and mass propaganda is a radical theme that runs deep through my work. Constructively melding tensions together taken from everyday imagery with powerful economic, cultural and political undertones attaches a unique and bold charge to each piece.

Beyond this particular series of work, I also pursue a unique body of abstract works, including oil and mixed media paintings. The work ranges from small and intimate yet high impact watercolors on paper to bold, expressive and vivid large oils on canvas or linen.
